You, Me, Her & That Guy

We play the music of the great,
wide American string band tradition

When we hear a song and fall in love with the sound of string instruments and harmony singing, that’s a song we want to sing for you. We are Pat Sorenson, Jim Clark, John Roberts, and Laurelyn Roberts. And you can hear us around our local stomping grounds, usually totally free of charge.

It all started because we wanted to sing bluegrass music…

We met in a church hall to learn more about bluegrass singing from one of our local heroes, Max Anderson, a teacher at Concord Conservatory of Music. We could see the joy on each others faces and wanted the experience to go on, and on…. That was a couple years ago. And were still having fun!

Supporting musicians and music education

We are so grateful for the gift of music and what it has brought to our lives that when we earn tips, we make a donation to a music-related non-profit that supports musicians, learning, and people who might not encounter musical education otherwise. Here is where some of our donations have gone.

Restring Appalachia

Founded after Hurricane Helene swept away roads, homes, and the instruments of musicians in North Carolina, Restring Appalachia puts instruments back into the hands of musicians. We visited the area last year and rebuilding is still very much in progress. The media moment moves on long before people are feeling safe and recovered from such disasters. Getting to play music again, and book paying gigs, restores the heart and keeps body and soul together. RA recently began a similiar initiative in Haiti.

Concord Conservatory of Music

CCM is local music school where we met and continue to hone our abilities and enthusiasm. It’s not a big place, but it’s mighty, and mighty fun!

Hi, John & Laurelyn here!

Hi! John and Laurelyn here.

We have a simple aim in mind: live a little more each day in such a way that when we die, we have few regrets. Not a life of more, but a life that is rich, deep, and connected to people, those we love and whoever we encounter.

Take a look at Laurelyn’s art and consider joining us for a house concert.
