The Hazel Project, Oct 18

/

That’s Hazel Dickens. The Hazel Dickens. With Alice Gerrard, she’s often called a pioneer of bluegrass and a grandmother to women in bluegrass. But just the other day, a friend said, “It was Hazel and Alice who turned my attention to this music in 1972.” Together and separately, they’ve poured so much raw emotion and power into our lives through their music. And they lived what they sang about.

The songs are so good, it might be enough to imitate Hazel and Alice. But The Hazel Project isn’t a cover band. Betsy Green (fiddle), Gretchen Bowder (banjo), Whitney Roy (guitar), and Lindsay Lassonde (bass) celebrate and interpret these great songs, capitalizing on the quartets’ remarkable harmony singing and hot-damn bluegrass chops. Hearing them at Ossipee Valley Music Festival, we learned just how much they deepen our appreciation of the music by weaving the history of the songs and singers into the concert.

  • Treat your ticket as a donation to the artists. For many of us, that’s not much to give, but it can mean a tank of gas or a meal to musicians funding their own tour.
  • Give your ticket to someone who wants to take your place. That would feel good, wouldn’t it? Let us know who’s coming in your stead.

Hi! John and Laurelyn here.

We have a simple aim in mind: live a little more each day in such a way that when we die, we have few regrets. Not a life of more, but a life that is rich, deep, and connected to people, those we love and whoever we encounter.

Take a look at Laurelyn’s art and consider joining us for a house concert.
