Thanks to Green Mountain Roots and Bluegrass Festival, we got to stand eight feet from Max and his National Bluegrass Team on a tiny side stage. It’s enough to say that the playing was tight, fresh, and melodic. But his manner on stage and off is free of performance. There’s a warm coherence between the man and the music. That is why we asked him right away if he would consider a house concert.
Max seems to have a (karmic?) connection to the earliest bluegrass innovators. He’s written a book about and transcriptions of Rudy Lyle, one of Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys. And he’s a member of the Peter Rowan band, another Bluegrass Boy. Rowan produced and sings on Max’s solo album, “Daggomit!” (Feb. 2025). It’s got that traditional sound, with all the dustiness removed, with great new songs – all of it a lot of fun. Max will be joined by Jack Holland (guitar) and Wes Shuck (bass).
And he doesn’t attend the church of bluegrass exclusively. Check out his accolades, collaborators, education, and range in jazz and other genres.

A central aim of the concerts is to support artists. If plans change, we get it. You have options:
- Treat your ticket as a donation to the artists. For many of us, that’s not much to give, but it can mean a tank of gas or a meal to musicians funding their own tour.
- Give our ticket to someone who wants to take your place. That would feel good, wouldn’t it? Let us know who’s coming in your stead.
100 percent of the proceeds from concerts at our house will always go to the artists. Thanks for understanding and sharing our aim to help artists with a little generosity.
