We are having a great time hosting musicians, friends, and neighbors. The first two concerts were full, easy, and a really comfortable conversation between listeners and players.
Sign up to receive email updates on these concerts. We won’t send too many email, but will do our best to keep you informed.
But wait there’s more! Save the dates below and look for more about each of the artists as the dates draw closer.
G Rockwell and Hillary Weitzman
July 14, Sunday, 3:00 p.m.
Laurelyn and I saw these two at the Passim Down Home Up Here festival in April (2024). Turns out, they’re longtime friends. That came through in their strong, warm music-making together. But we also watched G play banjo and win the Fresh Grass banjo competition in 2022. While we appreciate their technical skill, we just wanted to hear more of the freshness and lightness they bring to traditional and new music. You can expect to hear some music from G’s new album “Bouyancy.” G Rockwell is @g_rockwell_banjo Hillary is @ajoyfullittlefiddler
Rachel Sumner and Traveling Light
August 25, Sunday, 3:00 p.m.
We were introduced to Rachel Sumner through Maxfield Anderson who performs with her and Hazel Royer in a show they bring to Passim a couple times a year called, Hello Stranger, the music of Hazel Dickens and Alice Gerard. See that show! It’s full of original heart and guts, brought to life by with rich and gutsy performances. But maybe I digress.
Rachel and Traveling Light bring the best of the traditional sounds of string band music to new music that’s beautiful, poignant, and pointed as an ice pick. In person, the musical energy from these three is full of heart, landing in big, big waves. Rachel and Traveling Light is @rtsumner
Rob Flax and the Boom Chick Trio
October 6, Sunday, 3:00 p.m.
Our good friend George plays in a band with Rob, where he plays electric violin (!). So we took George’s recommendation to hear Rob and Boom Chick at Passim. When we picked our jaws up off the table, began to hope they could play here, too. Let it come to pass.
And it has. We heard a brand new fiddle tune, some heartfelt new tunes that I’d call “folk,” gypsy jazz, a new song in Russian from guitarist Slava Tolstoy, and hilarious song from bassist Max Ridley, and some incredible music performed in ways that would be impossible for lots of people. At one point, they all played Rob’s fiddle. Humor, heart, and a geyser of energy that will make you smile long after the show is over. Rob, Boom Chick, and his wide array of projects is @robflax
Crowes Pasture
November 10, Sunday, 3:00 p.m.
Thanks to our friends, Linda and Mike in California, who also host house concerts, we learned about Monique and Mike and Crowes Pasture. I love their origin story.
The short version is that they were putting their son to bed one night and sang a song together, breaking into a quiet harmony. When they closed the door to their son’s room, they looked at each other and said something like, “That sounded pretty good.” In six years they have produced two albums of new music inspired by the roots tradition that we love in what they call their guitar-banjo romance.
